Will Argentina Qualify For 2010 World Cup ???

This seems to be the question in everyones mind nowadays...

If you have asked me this before the Argentina- Brazil match, I would have definitely said a Yes; but now even I am doubtful. Maradona has been the major reason for that fixation and it is sad to see Argentina struggling to qualify under him. The old saying "Good Players, don't Make Good Coaches" looks like becoming true in Maradona's case.

Maradona was a legend and could single handedly take his team to greatness. They can't understand how he play so great with Barcelona and looks out of sort in the Argentinian Jersey.

Barcelona ace Lionel Messi has been the subject of many attacks by Argentinian fans in recent times.Messi has been trying hard to defend himself and he do have a point - football is essentially a team sport. Until the team clicks he can't do anything. There are rumours that Maradona is so unhappy with him and is not in talking terms. Messi is not alone in this kind of manners.

Pep Guardiola Backup Messi From Being Criticised

Messi has recently received a lot of criticism from the Argentine fans and press...

They claim that the Blaugrana star is not as committed to the national team as he is to his Barcelona club.

Guardiola said to Sport press,

"Argentina must know that Messi is the same with the national team,no one can say that he does not love his country, because a year ago he did not play in the Champions League qualifier [against Wisla Krakow] in order to be with Argentina [at the Olympics] where Argentina win the gold medal .

"This year, he did not play in the first game of the league season [against Sporting Gijon] so that he could be with his country [for their World Cup qualifiers].
"I am sure that he will be fine against Peru. The only thing that he must have is to be left to work in peace." In my opinion, i hope Argentina's should offload Maradona ASAP because he is the main factor that lead to this problems !!

Argentina 1-3 Brazil Rating.....Messi..!!!

Luis Fabiano and Kaka starred as the Selecao brushed aside Maradona's men...

BRAZIL

Luisao: 8.0 – Brilliantly placed header that left Andujar with little chance. Was very solid in defence and won several crucial high balls. An exciting display.

Julio Cesar: 7.5 –
Couldn't do anything about Datolo's amazing strike. The Inter Milan goalkeeper always looked very secure and made a couple of important saves towards the end of the game.

Maicon: 7.0 –
The Inter Milan right-back made life a living hell for Heinze. Not only was he firm in defence, but he darted forward time and time again, to further damage the Argentine defence.

Lucio: 7.5 –
The Brazil captain played a perfect game. He didn't allow Argentina's attackers to get past him, and won several important high balls. Messi and Tevez couldn't deal with his frame.

Andre Santos: 6.5 –
Once again proved to be an essential reason for Brazil's success. Andre Santos is a class act, and closed down Tevez and Rodriguez throughout the entire game.

Elano: 7.0 –
Was well worth his place in Brazil's starting XI. The Turkey-based midfielder provided Brazil's first goal with an inch-perfect free-kick. He was very accurate with set pieces.

Gilberto Silva: 7.0 –
Often criticised for simply being in the team, the low-profile midfielder intercepted several crucial balls and made a telling contribution each time he was called upon.

Felipe Melo: 6.0 –
Wasn't his best performance, but a solid one. The Juventus left midfielder combined well with Gilberto Silva and Kaka, with his precise passing and movement off the ball.

Kaka: 8.5 –
A sensational performance from the Real Madrid superstar. Once again demonstrated to be one of the best in the business with his speed, determination and class. His brilliant through ball split the Argentina defense and set up Luis Fabiano for Brazil's third goal.

Robinho: 5.5 –
Although he wasn't close to his best, Robinho was always a handful for the Argentina defence. He made a number of clever runs that opened up space for his team-mates.

Luis Fabiano: 9.0 –
Clearly Brazil's best player in a match that he will never forget. Scored twice, including an absolutely delicious chipped effort. Luis Fabiano has proven to be perhaps the most lethal striker in the world at the moment.

Substitutes

(Barca Star
) Daniel Alves: 6.5 – Came close to scoring with a trademark free-kick

Adriano – n/a –

ARGENTINA

( Barca Star) Messi: 6.5 – Despite all the hype leading up to the game, the Barcelona superstar could hardly get into the game, and didn't make any of his spectacular runs. He was well marked, and was allowed little freedom.

Andujar: 6.0 –
The Catania goalkeeper couldn't do anything about Brazil's three goals. He rescued his side from what easily could have been a demolishing.

Zanetti: 5.5 –
Was put under so much pressure that the veteran could hardly move forward on one of his trademark runs down the flank. Looked ordinary at times, especially when it came to clearing danger from the Brazilians.

Dominguez: 5.0 – An evening to forget for the debutant. Struggled to meet high balls and was very clumsy with his feet. Couldn't deal with the speed of the likes of Luis Fabiano and Robinho.

Otamendi: 5.5 –
Was Argentina's best defender by far, and was much of the reason why they didn't concede more goals. The Velez Sarsfield man showed more determination than his more experienced associates.

Heinze: 4.0 –
Was at fault for Brazil's first goal. Heinze allowed Luisao to meet the ball with a free header, and before he knew it the ball was at the back of the net. Further question marks could be asked about his defending in the second half.

Rodriguez: 5.5 –
Steered Argentina forward at every opportunity, but like most of his team-mates, seemed to lack confidence after Brazil's opener. He fought in the midfield, but was clearly off form.

Mascherano: 5.0 –
Once again was a shadow of the player he is for Liverpool with the national team. Couldn't keep up to the pace of the game at times and often resorted to violent tackling. Was lucky not to escape with a red card.

Datolo: 7.0 –
Scored an absolute screamer of a goal that left Julio Cesar with no chance whatsoever. Datolo was one of Argentina's only bright spots, especially in an attacking sense.

Veron: 6.5 –
Started extremely well, as he organised the Argentina midfield and orchestrated their best attacking moves. But he seemed to tire in the second half and his free-kick deliveries left a lot to be desired.

Tevez: 4.5 – Played well below his potential. Tevez showed sparks of his genius at times, but wasn't supplied with the right services. His crosses in the first half were dangerous, but that was pretty much it. No finishing at the penalty area.

Substitutes

Aguero: 5.5 –
Played the full second half, but made little impact.

Milito: 6.0 –
Looked very lively when he came on, and almost found the back of the net.

Argentina 1-3 Brazil: Selecao Qualify As Albiceleste's Crisis Continues and What Happen To MESSI ??

Argentina lost their first World Cup qualifying match at home for 16 years, handing Brazil qualification for the World Cup...

CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying

Luis Fabiano scored twice as Brazil stunned Argentina in Rosario, qualifying for the World Cup in the process.

After Luisao had opened the scoring, two Luis Fabiano strikes were sandwiched with one from Jesus Datolo, which proved to be a mere consolation.

Argentina lined up as divulged by Maradona earlier, with Carlos Tevez playing just behind Lionel Messi.

Brazil, meanwhile, fielded a familiar line-up, with Luis Fabiano leading the line.

The Albiceleste were under considerable pressure going into this game, and they made their intentions clear very early on, with a brilliant sequence of one-touch play straight from the kick-off ending in a corner after just 40 seconds.

However, after that early burst of inspiration, the game struggled to find any rhythm, with the nerves on both sides evident. Lionel Messi showed a few glimpses of skill, but would have been disappointed with his first shot, an effort from distance that flew well wide.

Argentina were certainly monopolising possession, but apart from the occasional dribble from Messi, they were failing to threaten Julio Cesar's goal. The decision by Maradona not to play a genuine striker, with Tevez and Messi both roaming, meant that there was often no-one in the box to collect the final ball.

Brazil had hardly left their own half, but on 24 minutes, they took the lead completely against the run of play. Elano whipped a free-kick in from the right, and Luisao rose unmarked to head home, once again highlighting the frailties of the home side's defence.

Minutes later, Juan Sebastian Veron whipped in a free-kick of his own, and it would surely have resulted in an equaliser had anyone got a touch. It was a tale of set-pieces though, as the Selecao capitalised on yet another one to extend their lead.

Elano's direct effort from range deflected off the wall, eventually making its way to Felipe Melo. His shot was saved by Mariano Andujar, but the rebound fell straight to Luis Fabiano, who tucked the ball away, compounding the misery for Diego Maradona's men.

On 37 minutes, Argentina finally created something of note, when Tevez's cut-back was met by Maxi Rodriguez, only for Julio Cesar to deny him from point-blank range. The home side's woes were summed up soon after, when Veron completely missed an attempted volley in the box.

On the stroke of half-time, Brazil nearly scored a third after yet another Elano free-kick. Luis Fabiano got his head on the cross, and only Andujar's outstretched hand prevented more embarrassment for Argentina.

There was still time for Argentina to mount one final attack before the break, when Datolo's shot flew inches wide of the far post. That proved to be the final chance of the half, as Maradona took his side into the sheds for the most important team talk of his managerial career to date.

The Argentina boss wasted no time in making changes, bringing Sergio Aguero on for Maxi Rodriguez. The Albiceleste started brightly again, but still looked dangerously susceptible to the counter-attack.

The game was now being played entirely in Brazil's half, but the Selecao always seemed to have an extra defender to cut out the final ball. As the hour mark approached, the whistles rang around Rosario, with the home side still looking unlikely to find a way back into the game.

Messi continued to dribble past opponents with ease, but playing in his deep role, he lacked any support to make it worthwhile. Meanwhile, Luis Fabiano flashed a shot wide from distance, as Brazil continued to create the better chances, despite hardly having any possession.

Then, out of the blue, came the lifeline for Argentina. Receiving the ball around thirty yards out, Datolo, who had flashed many a shot wide already, decided to have another go. This time, it flew into the top right hand corner, to the delight of the crowd.

It proved, however, to be a false dawn. With the fans still celebrating, Kaka played a special through ball for Luis Fabiano, who latched onto it and chipped it brilliantly over Andujar, thus restoring the two goal deficit.

Both managers then made further changes, with Ramires and Daniel Alves replacing Elano and Robinho, while Diego Milito came on for Tevez. The Inter striker nearly had an immediate impact, shooting straight at his Intern team-mate, after being set up by Messi.

With less than 15 minutes left, the goalscoring hero, Luis Fabiano, was replaced by Adriano. Argentina were still pouring forward, but they continued to be hampered by sloppy passes and misplaced shots. With five minutes left, Julio Cesar thwarted Milito from point blank again.

The home side failed to find a way back in the game, thus deepening their qualification problems, with a tricky trip to Paraguay on the horizon. Brazil, meanwhile, can book their tickets to South Africa.
